Default Monday afternoon @ Brush Creek

Well, I got the boat out of hibernation. Headed down to Windsor and unloaded boat (first solo trip so was little nervous about loading and unloading but went off without a hitch!). Didn't get down there til 2 and the parking lot only had 5 cars in it and I met a guy that said they had slowed down. Managed to get my big Lund through the crap and tied off in a creek. Not much luck on minnows 5 ft down in 10 feet of water but managed a nice bass jigging. Headed back further up the main creek and tied off again. Managed 2 crappie and a drum and one that got away. Either a cat or bass. Water was around the 57 degree mark. May have been too deep. In my four hours of fishing I think I spent most of my time trying to keep the boat stable and retying lines, but overall a great experience doing it solo. Need to rethink my set up for sure as my deep bottom boat northern trolling boat isn't exactly made for deep cover but happy overall that I made it back in one piece! All fish were spared the fillet knife and will live to fight another day!

Glad you got out and put a few fish in the boat. The first few solo trips are a little intimidating but you will get it. As for the Lund they are great boats and very nice in open water and rough water which we get from time to time down here in certain areas of the lake. Boat control can be a little tough when the wind gets to gusting. You will get use to hitting the stumps/trees after a while. It is just part of fishing Truman. Welcome to the site and the MO board. You said you headed down to Windsor Crossing. Where are you from?

Welcome to the board! I fish an aluminum boat too and that wind will wear you out some days!

That part of the lake is very hard to keep from hitting stumps, they call it brush creek for a reason.

Hitting stumps if one thing, getting stuck on them is another. You will get use to loading and unloading by your self. The only problem is when there is people waiting on you to unload you tend to rush more than you should. Congrats on getting out there and catching some.

Thanks guys. Ya, Brush Creek definitely earns its name! Originally from Nebraska but live up in the Waverly, MO area. There was a boat behind me when I was loading so the pressure was on but I nailed it. I don't plan it going that smoothly again but glad it can go that way! Guess I perform well under pressure! Lol

Almost all of the fishing I've done at Truman has been around KK for walleye but will definitely have to do some more exploring in the Tebo or Bucksaw area! Always enjoy reading your posts!

In the Navy we call the first outing a shake down cruse, I would say you passed,,, as for the ramp, sometimes I am on crutches, and go pretty slow,,, all I can say is Every one has always been the tops, not one complaint in a very long time, and most of the time they offer to help,,,, keep working on your set up and yes give new area a try, you may get skunked ( i do) but you learn. and welcome to the best fishing site on the earth,,,, Period.
