MDC is one of the examples of a government department that works well, IMHO.
The yearly/daily fees at Smithville have nothing to do with MDC. That is Clay County reaching into your pocket! MDC takes care of the fish, improving the habitat, establishing length and creel limits, etc. USACOE helps with managing the lake for flood control, cooperation with MDC on pool levels at cerain times of the year (winter draw-down) and erosion control, etc. I'm some of the fees pay salaries for county employees at the lake and possibly for ramp maintenance, but you can bet your last dollar that Clay County is putting most of the pass fees right from your pocket to theirs.

The MDC does a good job managing our fisheries and wildlife . The cost of the permits and taxes for conversation are a bargain compared to the rest of the taxes we pay in Missouri . Income tax , and personal property tax are a big burden .
If this senator is so concerned about "double taxing" why not propose a bill to do away with property taxes. I paid taxes when I bought the property and it really burns me that I have to pay taxes every year just for owning it. That's double taxing. The conservation dept is really under funded and they really do a great job with what they get.

double taxation...like buying an out of state elk tag for 10X the resident rate to hunt Federal land?
I am a KS resident and assume my out of state MO license is about to triple if this passes? irritating but still a drop in the bucket to gas, equipment, etc. and will worth it for the thump.still cheap entertainment
Just a little FYI. Most Federal monies received by MDC are distributed based on the number of permits sold by each state. This is the reason many states are now selling a low-cost "senior" permit instead of allowing senior citizens to fish/hunt without a permit. It's to keep them on the rolls, so to speak.
Seniors deserve a break, they've paid their dues and most live on fixed income. They don't get raises.
Yep, I'm one.
I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.
I noticed an article on the Missourinet this morning stating that Representative Redmon has withdrawn his bill concerning the sales tax that the Department of Conservation receives. Senator Munzlinger has not withdrawn his to eliminate hunting and fishing and other license fees, and there is another bill by Representative Spencer of Wentzville to reduce the 1/8th cent sales tax to 1/6th cent. I can only assume that Representative Redmon has heard enough comments, but Senator Munzlinger and Representative Spencer have not.
1/6th cent... Typo? That would be a tax increase.
