I seen some open water today...........In Oklahoma! lol
Headed to the office this morning. I passed a farm pond, maybe .5-.75 acre size. By the dam it looked to be deep, but it can be misleading. Anyway, there were three full grown cows standing right in the middle. THAT IS SOME THICK ICE!!
Hoping the lake thaws, I know it is not as thick as the ponds, but dang.

Dang Gordon! That ice has got to be over 5 inches. I used to ride a 750lb atv on the ice to fish but wouldn't do it unless it was 6" of "clear" ice. When you figure they have all that weight spread out on their hoofs. 24sq in hoof avg weight 750lb? 6 inch clear ice? I need to go back to work, I'm depressed now.
The fishing was so good I thought it was yesterday
I about ran off the road looking twice then three times to make sure I was seeing what I was seeing. No bueno!!

Jeff out of hacksaw said there was around 6" of ice up from hacksaw.
Last Saturday (02.08) I was on a good-sized pond. Bottom 3-4" was good clear ice. Top 2-3" was slushy crap.
Then on Sunday (02.09) I went out on Smithville. Ice was THICKER?!? At least, in the one area we were. Took forever to drill holes. Good solid ice of at least 6"-8"....some places more. Don't know that I'd try main lake or anything, but...it's gonna be a little while.
I just wanted to share that the ponds are sometimes crappier than the lake. This winter defies logic, I guess.
Comming back from Stockton today we seen 6 calves in a pond, half under , bad deal man.
that's gonna cost someone some $$$. that's a real bad deal
Yep, agent in my office used to be a farm insurance adjuster, she was talking about cows/calves falling through, depending on the plan, it may not be covered.

Lakes in Missouri are scary. You may have good ice one day then they decide to run some water and leave a air space underneath. I never go on the ice in Missouri. You can catch all the fish you want, I’m not interested.
