Longview 5-17-13

Went out to longview today and couldn't find any fish on the banks. Not sure if they are done spawning or haven't started yet. Anyway found fish 4-6 feet down over 15 feet of water. Caught a bunch of dinks and almost got our limits of keepers 8 in +. Finished the day in a cove with a huge tree that had big branches spread out in all directions from the trunk up in, of course 15 ft of water, so I moved my boat INTO the tree branches, not next to it and dropped some lines and we started catching some 12 to 14 in hogs. My cousin got 6 big ones and I got 7 before he got hung up and pulled the boat into the tree banging it and dropping his rod in the floor of the boat. Once that happened we didn't catch another fish from this tree and they were all over my fish finder before but gone now. Here are the biggest ones of my bunch.

Good job! Do they have the mouse creek area closed yet? If not, let me know. I'll tell you where I've caught some huge crappie around this time of year!

I have yet to catch more than two or three over 7" in that lake. Glad you got into them.

got out Saturday afternoon myself. Had to sort through several short fish but ended up with 10 nice ones over 9". had a couple in the 10.5-11 range. If we can start getting people to keep a lot fish out of this lake we should start seeing bigger fish every year.
