Default Anybody been to Barkley/Kentucky lake fishing??

Trying to plan vacation for spring 2013. These lakes are rated good for Crappie, also rated good for Bass. Anybody got any info?

Kentucky lake is one of the best fishing lakes in the country, 10 inch limit on crappie, a lot of really good fish come out of there, this past spring produced one their best years in a decade, including a big class of 9 3/4 fish, but it's 150,000 acres and fishes like it, so if you go for your first time you need to be solid on your electronics and do a lot of research. Awesome lake though.
I clever quip fishing ironic statement crappie!

I've fished there, but would rather hit Reelfoot in the spring. That's just my opinion though.

I used to fish it every day I was off about 10 years ago. I had a little place right on Blood River. Throwing road runners on the bluffs was good early then as water warmed we would fish steak beds in Crappie Hollow. Its a big cove off of Blood River. Usually 5'-6' deep once you get up in there and there used to be all the brush piles and steak beds you wanted. Lots! Big Sandy on the Tn. side is also a crappie mecca on Kentucky Lake. Hope this helps, 10 years is along time and I'm sure alot has changed. There are several good guides over there also.

Caught some really nice black crappie spider rigging along the bluffs in Blood River last March.

Thanks for the great info. In early stages of plannin vacation, thinkin real hard bout Kentucky lake. It's 3 x the size of truman. Watchin lots on U tube bout it. Reading everything I can find. Got good electronics! Looks like I can fish the spawn there and come home and fish the spawn at Truman.

Kentucky Lake is on my bucket list....from what I read it's an excellent crankbait lake for bass and crappie. If I remember correct a couple years ago KVD caught over 90 lbs of bass in 4 days on that lake. Lake Fork is a good crappie lake we caught some good ones there 2 years in a row inbetween bass fishing.

The only time I ever pulled crankbaits was on Kentucky Lake about 11 years ago on July 4 and July 5. Went with Larry McMullin and pulled Bandits at Big Sandy one day and Blood River the next. It was pretty cool to go catch 60 fish a day when it was about 105*.

I used to fish the southern end , near Perryville for crappie when I lived in Tn. for 19 years . The Paris Landing area is better known for slab crappie though . Probably the most over rated lake in the country for numbers , unless you know where every stake bed or brush pile is located , like most guides do !

Thanks for the info TnRidge. Plan to have a guide for a day to show me depth and tecnique. After that I can probably locate stake beds and brush piles-runnin Lowrance Structure Scan.
