    Default Smithville 5/31

Let's just say if you like wind, waves and cool weather......you'd have been as happy as a Bostonian at a Clam Bake today out there.

I went out with new member Mike. We kicked off around 9:30 from CB and immediately headed up past the western W bridge fishing shallow and not so shallow on the rocky banks near Roberts, etc. We had a couple of bites there and one fish, but just couldn't handle the wind where we wanted to be.

Then we tried the cove north of the water intake. We both caught one in the mouth of that cove, but they were dinks.

From there we went to the first cove southwest of the W bridge and fished the piles/humps in there. Zip nada. Next up Shady Hollow. I think we had one or two bites there. Then it was off to the little platte beach area. We added another fish or two to the live well there and were about to go try the Eyes off the dam since the wind and waves were certainly aligned for it, but we decided to head back.

At the last sec we decided to tie up at the Collins Rd bridge. The wind was nasty! But the fish we biting! We caught about another 10-11 keepers there for a solid 13-14 fish day.

The fish liked minnows, followed by silver jigs and jigs that LOOKED like minnows.

Not sure when the next excursion is gonna be, but looking forward to it!!

    Tight lines everyone!
