I have a set of trees that almost always produces half a limit of crappie if not more. It's always my first stop. I'll try vertical jigging, cast and let it fall back to boat and back off and cast. One of those methods seems to prduce and can be different from day to day. I hit my hot spot first, figure out how the fish are feeding that day and then a move or two will usually fill out my limit.
The question is, tho, are you on main lake, river channel, coves/creeks, or even near spawning areas? My problem has always been identifying the type of structure they are on. Fished Sunday and tried the mouth of a main spawning cove because I've read that they stage out there before moving in. Then backed out and dipped around trees closer to the channel. Most of my fishing was to toss out 12'14' of line and let it fall back to the boat. Frustrating time of year, to be sure....especially when members post that they are tearing them up

I guess I should have replied earlier. I did get out on the lake and it was a really nice day. I spent quite a bit of time just searching new areas looking for good fishing spots. I got my fishfinder to light up a few times but I was having a hell of time keeping my boat in some manner of control while trying to fish. I didn't get skunked and really had a nice time. Just got to get the hang of handling the boat and the fishing pole at the same time.
