Default We use snap swivels, too

For the reason you list - quick change of jigs when looking for the "right " crappie bait. Some guys like a loop so their jigs aren't tied rigidly to the main line, and I kinda think the snap achieves that free-floating affect. It may also make a difference that we cast-and-retrive almost exclusively when fishing for crappie. I do tie direct for bass or cat fishing, though.
I like the idea of having multiple poles rigged, but here in Ohio, we are limited to two poles and if the ranger finds you with several rigged poles at hand, you will get fined. - Roberta

    Default G3

Thanks Duane. I'm going to do a bit more research but I like the boat and think it would meet our needs. I'm not into getting to the other side of the lake in a big hurry. I think the 40hp would probably be enough.

I was impressed with the construction of the boat. Looks solid and the set up is well thought out.

Thanks for your thoughts on this, it's appreciated.

Hi Roberta - Yeah I think much of the rigging is personal preference and what seems to work from experience I gues. I've caught fish direct and using a swival.

I'm just getting into fishing after years of being out of the country. It's great to get back into it and experiment with different methods. Everyone on this site have been a great help with suggestions.

    Thanks

Also is this boat at a dealer or is a person selling it. Either way I would take it to a marine shop and have them look over the motor. They can do compression test to make sure all the cycliners are in good shape. Also some motors have computers on them they can also tell how the motor has been run. You might also ask what kind of maintance there needs to performed on the 4 stroke and what the cost are. I know they need to have the oil changed like your car would. And not having a fish finder on the trolling motor is not to much of a problem. You can mount one yourself in a couple of hours, most fish finders for a decent one run 100 to 200 bucks
Thanks. I'm gonna check out that site. Appreciate the comments.

Also consider taking that baby for a test run, before you buy it also.

    Not yet.

I was talking with my brother in-law who travels to a bunch of crappie tournaments each year and he suggested looking at something longer and wider than the G3 PF165. He suggested maybe going with a bass boat.

He's had 16.5's and several other boats and says that he got tired of being tossed around on the lake. He feels much safer on the lake with the extra width and length I guess. Makes sense to me.

So now I'm shopping again. Not in a big hurry so will wait until it feels right I guess. No matter what I'll have "buyers remorse" for awhile after the purchase. ha.

    Default Yep

I would have to agree with your brother inlaw on the longer and wider part. I went from a 18ft lowe which was 85.5 wide to the charger that I have now. That is 19' and in 95 wide, which isnt much but it sure makes a big difference. Keeps you from getting rocked around if there is alot of big waves. On the safer part that just depends on what lake you go to. On LOZ I get a little worried about the boat I have now being to small but on other lakes I feel pretty safe.

I guess you were not kidding that your bow has room for 2 Ted!, That is awesome. Now if I could just convince my girlfriend that wider is better... just on my end of course! LOL
