    Default Avery Bottoms, Truman Lake

fished up from Avery towards Sapps Landing ,caught fish right on top of the water down to about 5 ft.shad hatch must have been great cause schools of them about 1/2 in. long was around the top of the trees(thats why the fish is so shallow)we watched what looked like thousands of 1/4 in size swimming the bank line at the ramp ,it was a never ending stream of shad fry going by.I know that alot of people don't beleive crappie are shallow this time of year but we caught fish all day, lots of shorts but plenty of fish up to 13 in. we were just wore out by the end of the day and we never seen one other fishermen.a couple of trot-liners came in this afternoon and ran their lines but that was it.Thumbs Up

Great trip and report. I love chasing the giant schools of shad, and catching the crappie that follow them.

nice going, lots of folks believe shallow crappie since getting on here, hope the shad hatch is as good on stockton lake, makes for nice fat samich sides on the crappie

Great report Dave. Sure sounds like fun. I seen the Shad spawning two years ago at Ed's camp. The whole cove was a forth about 2 1/2 ft out from the bank. You could walk down and see some huge Shad up along the bank and it was solid all the way around the cove and even main lake by ramp. Had to have been millions of them. They would scatter when you walked up to them but would come back with in 15-30 seconds and the water would be churning again right at your feet. Never caught a fish that day but it sure got good after that. Congrats on a good day on an unheard of to most people part of the lake. We use to love chasing the green fish around in that area.
