How's it going buckwheat? I'd like to throw this out for thought for you and bender as a disclaimer to what you are saying about the looks of a boat. I could have a boat out in the back yard that has set there for 5 years, uncovered, in the sun. I could then decide I'm going to sell it. So I tear the carpet out, wet sand it a bit, wax it, buff it out, and then do a quick carpet job. Then tell every guy that comes by that I always had to boat covered and stored inside, blah blah blah. The fact is, you would never know the difference. You'd have no choice but to believe it, because you're looking at a slick boat with a great finish.

I'd say the when you are buying a used boat, almost all the value is in the motor. And trying to ensure that the motor is in good shape and operable, good compression, is the most important thing.

Plenty of people car shop the same way for used cars. Look at the outside, and interior, and if it looks great they buy it. Only to find out that they have 3-4K in engine work to do. LOL

This is the theory I've always subscribed to as well. The value or worth of the boat is in what's hanging off the back of it.

I'm tired of this do you really think a guy who had let a boat sit in the back yard for 5 years is going to put forth the effort to do this to sell it? I don't think so and even if he did it would be obvious that something was not right with the boat because after 5 years the boat would have a lot of other issues including the motor. How dumb do you think we are? In my first post the first thing I said was have the motor checked! It does not appear that you are really interested in helping Beagle but tring to prove a very poor opinion on used boat buying. I am now done with this and anything further I have to add to Beagle's post will be done through a phone call to him.

Not sure what you're getting mad about. 1yr outside or 5yrs what I said is totally feasible, and you wouldn't know. I gave 5 years as an example, but it's all the same. Not accusing anyone of being stupid either, but I have seen enough boats worked over after sitting for years outside and you'd bet the owner took the best care in the world. LOL about my poor boat buying opinion. From what I gather from your expectations, I don't think you'd be looking at a 25yr old boat anyway.

I have a 98 Triton with a 2004 Yama, and I know where my money was spent. My poor opinion bought a boat that you can feel flake in a couple spots, had some chips, scratches, what ever. Some I've fixed, some I haven't. But I can tell you if the boat was oxidized, scratched even more then it is, looked like crap, it'd handle and fish just the same as it does today. If I want a new boat, I'll just go to the dealer and buy a new boat. Don't like payments.

One of my fishing buddys has a late 80's champion like that. Single axle trailer 18' w/ 150. His runs in the upper 50's. Best riding boat I have ever been in. I give it a 10. I have been in lots of boats. My friend bought it new, its been used alot and he has taken very good care of it. He did have to have part of the hull reglassed 2 yrs ago. The cap has a very thick layer of clear coat that make is tough to rough treatment. His son put a very deep scrach in the cap that I helped repair. Thats how I know how thick the cap is.

This boat has seen alot of action. He is on his 3rd motor. Did I say its had alot of action?
