Default Good crappie lake in NE Missouri?

Hello, first time poster in the Missouri forums.
The last 3 years during spawn my brother, I and a few friends have been getting a cabin at Lake Sugema in southeast Iowa.
We`ll be doing the same this year although now Sugema has a gizzard shad problem. The DNR has applied chemicals to the lake to kill the gizzard shad but we are now weary of harvesting any fish from this great fishery.
Long story short, we are looking for other crappie fisheries. We`ve never traveled to missouri to fish but are within 10 miles from the missouri border.
Anyone have any leads on any good crappie lakes in which to launch a boat that is anywhere within an hour or 2 drive from lake Sugema?
We have our cabin from May 16 thru the 20th.
Lake Sugema, where we will be located is just south of Keosauqua Iowa 15 minutes from Farmingtom on the Des Moines river and a little over a half hour from Keokuk Iowa
I`ve heard mention of a lake near Wyconda that had loads of fish, but I`m trying to get my buddy to get me more specifics on this lake.

Lived in SE Iowa for few years, if two hours is your guideline I'd look at Rathbun or Mark Twain, both are very decent crappie lakes.

I hate to suggest mark twain with the problems they have been having with flooding and very muddy water. But I have caught lots of fish up there at times

I see by googling that there is a Lake Show Me nearby. And the search says crappie population is good.
Anyone have any info on this lake? Any good structure in the lake to fish? Anyone have luck with the panfish here?

    Meller,

For us that fish Twain a lot (every weekend from Feb - Sept) the high water these past few years has been a blessing. It protects the spawning fish to a certain extent and limits the pressure the lake sees overall. That is exactly why you are seeing Twain start to kick out your 2 lb. crappie in a somewhat consistent fashion.... they have had time to grow! Give me a 625' - 630' lake and I'll show you a happy fisherman....

I'll throw this out to anyone...... if you are thinking about fishing Twain on a weekend and you have high water, PM me and I'll point you in the right direction.

    U

mark twain is a good crappie lake, but if you are looking for smaller lakes showme is good also and has a pretty good walleye population. ther is also deer ridge lake, labelle lake, henry seaver, fox valley, waconda and agate, and in kirksville there is hazel creek and thousand hills. they can all be good fishing at times. my favorite of these is seaver for crappie. hope this helps.
