Is structure the differance in the depths between the two lakes right now. On Truman there are guys catching them under bobbers 4 ft in 8-9 ft of water and also guys. Catching them 25-30 ft down in 45 ft of water. Some of it may be structure and some of it may be a prefered way of fishing. I like to fish shallow and would be lost of I had to fish that deep. May not even have enough line on most of my reels to fish that deep. May be fun to try it some time but my preferance is to try and find shallow fish which can be done on Truman most of the year. May be differant on other lakes.

Once the lake turns over in the fall I didnt know there was a thermacline during the winter months. Atleast the fish are throughout the water column during the colder months of the year.

Could be that Stockton lake is a much smaller lake than LOZ is Bugman and the fishing pressure is harder on a smaller lake. This is not to say you can't catch fish shallow on Stockton because we caught them at the edge of the ice last winter in 8' of water, but that was on a totally different part of the lake too. On the main lake the fish have been deep and there is no thermacline in the winter to worry about. We do have brush piles in the 17-20' range but we very seldom find them there this time of the year. Another reason could be we do not have boat docks all over the lake and very limited amounts of timber too. Just my thoughts.

It is something to think about and i don't doubt a thing you or Tom say....i just can't figure out the difference i fished the lower main lake the other day and in a couple of creeks in a tributary arm the next day and found the fish to be on basically the same pattern, the second day we never came close to a dock....fishin leaves a feller scratchin his head at times thats why i usually fish against the grain.

I just figured all this out! Bugman we need you to bring us some of those shallow LOZ fish so we can put them in Stockton. That should do the trick a strain of LOZ crappie being introduced to Stockton.:D

All kidding aside I have no idea why there is such a difference I just know there is, I would like to find a shallow bite but can't so I fish where the fish are so I can catch fish. It really is as simple as that for me. I really hope the large schools of shad and crappie show up soon so I can put the smack down on them. Now that is fun!
