I have used the shimanos for years. Last year I got an Abu Garcia for Christmas. Bought another one a few weeks ago. I also have a Browning Ultralite. I use what feels good in the hand. I like the ones with the most bearings. Pretty much won't get another with less than 5 bearings. The newest one has 8 and its smooooth. Fish with what you like. And theres no such thing as a dumb question. I have asked some doozy's on here. Lmao
Proof is in the pictures. Top is nine and bottom is Slabbenstein!

I like the pflueger's myself, have had a couple browning reels too. The brownings worked fine until i was catching some bass with one in a farm pond and pretty much locked it up. 5 deg. is the coldest I've fished with them and they never gave me a lick of problems. But I also fish with a guy that buys the cheapest reels he can and he still catch's just as many fish.

My favorite reel is my Shimano Stradic, smoothe and slick, however the majority of my spinning reels are Abu Garcia Cardinals, 101-102's and even a 104 on a wally rod. The lower end shimanos never held up more than a couple years for me, however the stradic has held firm for 5 now I believe. The Cardinals seems to actually smooth out after a year or so of use. I don't own any rear drag models or quick fire trigger models for the same reason all my handles are on the left side of the reels, because thats how it was when I started (no choice then) and thats how I still like it. For the cost its hard to beat the cardinals $35.

As far as spinning reels I have always used the Quantum reels. From $10 ones to the Energy Pti at $140. I now use the Quantum Optix. They run about $20-$25 most places but got a good deal by buying a bunch at one time. I have 10 or 12 of them and use them for trolling rods clear down to my bobber rods that the kids use. Never any trouble in the winter fishing with them. I also use the $20 all metal WM mini bait cast reel on all my jig poles and no issues yet.

I use the 6730, but also have the 6720 that I've used on a jig pole. I also have the President XT which is a great reel but alittle more pricey. Only you can decide if its worth the money, my opion yes, but your the one buying it.

    Shimano, hard to beat
but seems like we are always trying to find something cheeper and just as good.

Having said that i just purchased a couple of reels from acadia sports. One baitcaster and one open face. I have used a bait caster before and it won't cast as good as a shimano chronarch but way way less money. The open face will be a new test. More ball bearings than any reel out there.
