Some times you have to find what the fish want, and some times you have to do what you are comfortable with. Your comfort level with the technique you use can often be the difference between catching a lot or a little, big ones or small ones. On the really good days everything works. Gotta love those days! I've had days where you had to hold it completely still for 2-5 minutes before you'd get a hit and they would hammer it. I don't like those days, but like catching them when they really thump it.

The more you fish, the more you figure out what your natural progression will be for moving from technique to technique.

you may think I'm nuts but this year I started fishing a 3 in. Tripple Ripple from Bass Pro in the milky salt and pepper color and most of the time I lower it to the bottom and barely pick it off the bottom and shake it 5 or 6 times and then hold it still ,Bam,almost knock the rod out of your hand.Been doing this all year and most of the time I beat whoever I.m fishing with.Just don't do it if anouther boat comes by cause they may fall out of their boat laughing at you.It started out on a slow day and I shook my pole fast and hollered wake up down there and thats when it all started, been doing it ever since and can't quit.Caught my limit last friday up by the dam still doing it.

I usually jiggle it, then wait a second and jiggle it again, then slow roll it up, then zip up, wash my hands and... oh wait, what are we talking about?

I put a lot of thought into what I do and it all works for me. One thing that I do that I have not heard about anyone doing is moving it from side to side on the same plan or on the drop. I got that idea watching some minnows swim around they move up and down slow but there always making quick little changes in the direction there moving.

Every day is different and water temps/conditions play a big part in how aggresive i am in trying to get the fish to bite,i usually try several of the different things mentioned above and let the fish tell me what they want.

All of the above-but if ya shake it more than 3 times yer just playing with it

If its windy and I'm using a float,I just let it drift or very sloooow retrieve, and they nail it.

Hey Cook I hope the last part of your comment was back to talking fishin because if not the wind shouldn’t be a factor and what in the heck would the float be for????

Sometimes move it a lot, sometimes deadstick, sometimes deadstick and move it a little, sometimes drop to the bottom and real up slow. You gotta try it all until you find what they like on that particular day.
