Lowrance DownScan Imaging Elite-5 DSI

I am starting to see these for sale online now. They look great. I know someone was looking for a new unit a week or so ago but I could not find the post. The Elite-5-DSI also has GPS. Most places are listing them for $649.99 but I did find one place that had them for $609.00. The Elite-5X-DSI is just the downscan and no GPS. It is running at $549. I do believe I will have at least one of these on my boat come spring mounted up front on the trolling motor. Here is a couple links with pictures of the units.

I checked the other day with j and h products and they're taking pre-orders for the Humminbird 700 series with the gps and downscan as well. I'm a thinking I will probably have one of these unless I come into some serious moolah where I can go with the sidescan.

The wife has said Santa just might bring me the Elite 5 DSI:D Word is that they won't be released until around February though. Guess the Jolly Old Elf will have to make a second trip this year:D

I will look again but I thought I seen late November on one of the sites I looked at. Either way I will not be gettting one until closer till spring. Maybe they will run a sale on them by then. I am all about getting a deal. Now will have to find a buyer for my 510C and HDS-5 with Lake Insight Gps.

Good stuff. We plan to upgrade to a better unit by next year also so will be looking at these also. Just to show my ignorance, what do these units do or not do that the high end units (HDS 5/7/etc I believe) do. From my limited knowledge, it looks like this unit has the cool down imagining views but not the side imaging that looks out to the side of the boat; is this a huge loss? The GPS component would be really nice to have. This one is more in my price range too.

Just looked at the Lowrance site again and they still say it's coming in "early 2011" Fishfinder, GPS Chartplotter | LOWRANCE Elite-5 DSI

most places are taking pre orders for them though. GPS City has them for $609 Lowrance DownScan Imaging Elite-5 DSI Fishfinder and GPS Chartplotter Combo, 000-10236-001

neither BPS or Cabelas has them listed yet

Thanks Radioactive. First of the year is soon enough for me. Grb these are only the downscan so no side imaging like the bigger/higher priced ones. I have not checked but they may not be able to record and capture screen shots like the others but not sure. I may buy two with the GPS and replace both my units. It will depend on the mapping in them. The HDS 5 with built in Lake Insight mapping that I have in my dash is great for running up and down the lake in GPS mode.

Just beware that if you do buy a Lowrance, you will get some of the worst customer support if you do have issues. I have several Lowrance devices and any issues have been a nightmare to deal with their customer service. Unless something has changed there in the past 6 months.....
