    Default Smithville 8/28

Today was an interesting day. Hit the lake with my brother early this morning. We put in at the Little Platte. He gets excited and likes to help get the boat ready for the water. So he jumps out, heads toward the back to take the transome saver off, puts the drain plug in, takes the straps off, and jumps in the drivers seat as I back the boat into the water.

We get past the no wake buoys and he goes throttle up (he really likes driving the boat) and the nose goes real high and it didn't plane as quick as it normally does. I thought that's funny. I know we've both big guys, but it should planed a lot faster. So eventually the boat planes and we head to the main lake brush piles.

We get to our first spot and spent about 10 minutes finding the brush, dropped makers when my brother noticed water was coming up from under the seat. I lifted the battery hatch and that back was full of water! We kicked the bilge pump on, fired up the engine, and headed back to shore.

Man, I was cussing; new boat and it sprung a major leak! As I pulled the boat up, I yelled back to my brother if the drain plug was in. He said it was in, but the boat was draining a lot of water. Wait! The drain plug was in and it's draining water? I put the car in park and headed toward the back to see what was going on. Well, my brother was right, the drain plug was in. But, it was in the overflow drain of the live well! He put it in the wrong place. So now I know my boat's US Coast Guard rating if correct. Boat full of water and we were still floating.

We fished a couple of places today. Up lake, just south of Twin Coves there are another set of coves on the east side of the lake. Lost of trees, a few channels, and lots of shallow, then deep, then shallow areas. Up lake hasn't seemed very productive for me the past couple of times I've fished it. The best bite is main lake, and brush piles seems to really produce. Best pile was the brush in front of the Crow's Creek camp ground that has a point into the main like (coordinates on Burton's website)

Great Story, I'm glad nothing was wrong with the boat.
Work so I can fish and fish so I can survive work.

Thanks Kevin. Boat's fine. Had to take the old carpet water to it and suck the water out of the carpet.

Done the same thing myself. It sure is a scary feeling to be out on the lake with water coming in. Glad it all worked out.
We do not want the gift of a fish; neither do we expect a lesson on fishing; what we direly need is a chance to fish

Rookie mistake - we all do it!

Caught a few last night on main lake brush also. Nothing big but some keepers.

Yeah, he felt pretty bad about the whole thing. But you know, I'll always do a double check on that plug each time we go out.
