It is a good fishing lake, but is a COE flood control lake. When the area receives 4 or mor inches of rain expect water levels to quickly rise 7-9 feet, ten takes 3 weeks to get back down again. But that is the main purpose of the structure. Fishing is an added bonus.

Good report Bruce. People should study the drainage area that feed MTL. It is huge, from
north of Kirksville to almost Columbia and everything east of 63 hiway funnels in here. And as you said IT IS FLOOD CONTROL LAKE plus level of Mississippi governs release rates.
Been catchin every day for past week, about 40-50 to 1 keeper, but did catch 14 1/2" this
    morn trolling cranks.
