Thanks. I have always wondered.
FYI. Another question I often get is "why do crappie I'm catching in the summer still have eggs? Did they not spawn?" Some portion of the population does not spawn each year, but virtually all the females will not release all their eggs. We aren't sure why, but they do reabsorb the unspent eggs and use them for energy to keep growing. So it's very common to see eggs in crappie even well after the spwan is over.
Thanks. I have always wondered.
