Thanks for the report, Kit. Looks like the water is warming up. Table rock just might be the place to be this year.
Dropped some structure just off Bridgeport and shot up the James do fish a deep water set that produces this time of year. My small brush pile now has a log jam of trees with the little tiny branches on it. It's a jig eater now.
Switched to casting a Blue & White Jig w/ 1/8oz Orange head and found only three in a couple hours. Two were 12ft on bottom and one was 20 down in 27ft. Three crappie and three Kentuckies. Good size crappie. One 15", One 14" & one 12". They were long and thin. Still amazes me a 15" Crappie can weigh only 1.4 lbs.
Water Temp. 43-45 deg.
Clarity was Gin Clear in the river. Could easily see the jig down to 4 ft.

I just KNOW it was a big one!!!
Mike
glad you caught a few long ones
Why do I have to press 1 for English?
Thanks for the report. Interesting weight to length ratio question you have there.
I would like to catch a skinny crappie like that ....... beats catching hell from the old lady..........
A FISH IN THE PAN IS WORTH TWO IN THE LAKE
According to guides on measuring tapes a 15" crappie should weigh 2.8lbs
Most 15" fish I've caught are 1 3/4 - 2#.
I catch a few of these long skinny guys up in the river that are long but I can still hold them around the body with one hand.
Fish are like people. You have 5'8" 300lbers & 6'7 that weight 180lbs.
Stockton this year has some of the fatest 9" fish I've ever seen.

Here's a conversion table. It appears to be median to others I've seen.
Standing in the Gap
Interesting table there Kit. A 15 in. black crappie weighs almost a half pound more than 15 in. white crappie.
