Default Thinking About a New Boat...is this one worth it?

I saw a 2005 nitro 640 LX ( 16 1/2 ft.) 90 hp Mercury (75 hrs) says it will run 50, and its pretty well decked out with electronics. Is it worth 8,500?

Does anyone have hany experiance with the smallish 640 lx?

Right now I have a lowe 17' alumminum boat with a 60 hp. That tops out around 30, its an OK rig but not very stable for LOZ, and thats were I fish most. I usually only fish with my dad, or 1 friend so space isnt a huge issue, I just want somthing a little more stable.

    All opinons welcome.

Give this link a hit. NADA guides aren't gospel but can give you some overall guidance based on condition, geographical area, and brand. And they will be what a bank looks at for loan values. My one rule of thumb with any boat purchase "ride before you buy". Simulate how you will use the boat; planing off, idling, lowest planing speed, mid range, top end, fishing, etc. If this boat with a 90 will truly GPS 50 that's scootin'. These boats were packaged with as small as 40 hp engines but I can tell you that wasn't an ideal set up.

Yep but as you well know OSS just because you try something out don't mean its going to be a good deal in a few years!

I have owned a Nitro 640, with a 90 on it. It is bolted to the transom, and they aren't set to the right height in relation to the "pad" to get best performance. They "might" do the low 40 range at best.
If you use much in the way of gear, you will be disapointed as to storage.
I would keep on looking if it were me.

I currently own a 640LX with 75Hp Merc. It has been a nice little boat for me, I have been extremely happy with it so far. The only down side I would say is it could have a little more storage and if you ever have three fishing from the boat at once it can get a little cramped. As far as stability, I fish mainly at LOZ and find it to be pretty stable for its size. I don't know about 50mph though, I have only 15Hp less and with a full livewell, gear and a passenger I top out at about 32-35Mph

Don't know anything about that boat but my previous Boat was a Skeeter SS-90 that was 16 foot with a 90 horse on it and I can't imagine they could get 50 mph out of that one. Best mph I got checking it with GPS was 45. Good luck in your hunt though.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, rather to skid in sideways, body used up and totally worn out screaming 'WOO~HOO what a ride!'

Take the boat out for a test drive and see what you think. I also doubt you will get 50 mph out of it. I own a 17' 10" Duracraft with a 90 HP outboard and only get maybe 40 mph.
