Work with a guy that likes to go fishing all year long. His pond of choice is Hillsdale Lake in KS. Him and a couple of other guys bought an old pontoon boat, put a enclosed canvas canopy, and cust a hold in the middle of floor for fishing. He said with a Coleman heater, they can fish all winter without fighting the elements.

BTW,went by the free ramp in Plattsburg, whole area frozen up as far as I could see-snows and Canadians everywhere...no eagles yet.
Edit:down to 21F now,20 some degree drop in 5 hours!

I hear ya about the weather. Wasn't going fishing. I was going to fire up my smoker and cook up some good grub (had a pork loin pinwheel ready), but nooooooooooooooooo...........................
Same deal, got up, didn't look bad, stars & 40's, little while later looked like crap. Wind, cold, cloudy, heavy drizzle.
Put the kibosh on that.
Turned the oven on. No good hickory flavor, but not bad.
I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.
If I am going to fish in the winter , I'd rather Ice fish than open water fish .
So, the few times I've been up to Smithville I have gone to the Camp Branch public docks, because that's what some of you on here talked about...
I have heard some talking of LP Marina...does that have public fishing too... and is it any good?
Nothing to redeem. I just figured 2 days of dinks was enough for anyone.
I don't think Little Platte LP has public fishing but I heard the owners of Castaway's might be selling permits to fish their dock. I'm not sure how that works becuase the county owns the docks and thye lease it????
Oh well anything for a buck and a fish.
