    Default Smithville 8-11

Took my 18 year old son out yesterday evening. We didn't fish for crappie too much but caught about a dozen. Six were barely legal and six were short. He's not into dabbling around the trees much. We did better casting and not letting the jig get deeper than 10 feet. They seemed to like the jig swimming more than a vertical presentation. Not much to report except the summer pattern still hasn't quite settled in yet. We did happen to locate some white bass before dark and my son had a blast. He loves catching them because they are so aggressive and fight so hard. They ran 12 to 14 inches and were in excellent condition. They were munching down on larger shad, mostly last years shad which are about 6 inches long. Tons of shad from last year and this year are all over the lake. This along with good numbers of 9-inch crappie bodes well for next year too.

I hit the tree line just south of the old Trimble Lake. Crappie were hitting from about 7pm to sundown. After the sun went down, the bite stopped. Water was very stained and temp was 83.
