When selecting a prop the pitch is the only number you need. The diameter changes as a result of the pitch. I go through 3 or 4 props a year and never had choice on diameter. The key to getting the right prop is to load the boat as usual and run it wide open adn at the appropriat trim level. You should be operating in the outboard's WOT tach range. Typically this is around 5500 rpm, but check your manual for the recommended range. Four strokes can be different than 2-strokes. If you pull tubbers or skiers you may need a different prop for that. A far as stainless vs. aluminum, be careful. A stainless will survive some stump and rock knocking but make sure you don't hit them at WOT. That results in a sheared off prop shaft, trust me I know! Aluminum won't be as tough but a blade will usually break off before you damage your lower unit. Although you can hit a stump just right at WOT and shear a prop shaft off too, trust me on this one too! I know Smithville Marine will let you purchase a prop and take it to the lake and try it and then swap it out if you need a different one...as long as you don't damage it! Although they have been uncanny at predicting the right prop for me...I've never had to swap one.

I know for an almost certian, and probably true fact, you can purchase a gps unit a small, hard to see unit, put it in a boat, hide it- someone elses boat that is, and go back later, hook it up to the ole computer and down load there tracks, just like the black box in some new cars to keep track of children. yep seen that done at bucksaw last year, or that's what I thought I saw. so knowing that and now knowing this (your post) I know now to fish all some one elses spots when the double D is arround. I still snicker when I see your handle. double Ds 20 dollars is my bid

You could at least let me fish out of it sometime.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, rather to skid in sideways, body used up and totally worn out screaming 'WOO~HOO what a ride!'

Ya I will have to get a wrench to put in there also. I thought about the composite for a spare. Friend of mine bought one for when he is pulling tube around. Saves a few $$$. When Walt fixed my spun hub last winter he just had me put it in gear. Seemed to work fine.

Have a clean 26P four blade Merc Trophy, late 90's circa that have kept for a spare all these years. Prop was on the engine only once to try and didn't see much time, fortunately never needed it as a backup. If anyone is in need of a spare or different prop let me know. Its the older version, since then there is a Trophy Plus.

That was the only time I had ever seen it done. Maybe tie the wrench on to the 2X4 with a few feet of string so it does not sink when my clumsey arse drops it in the lake. Will also need a small pair of needle nose for the pin that gos through it. Maybe good idea to tie them all to the 2X4. Other wise I can see a beagle kind of day happening to me.
