Great advice. Been doing the same thing on my crankbait rods for a few years. It works!!!
I spider rig alot and use 8 poles 12-14ft in length, when I store them to move and travel down the highway I hook the top hook on the upper section of the foam handle then twist line and sinker around handle till I can hook bottom hook. If sinker is below second hook spin it on the handle to, Now here is the MAJOR thing to keep things from tangleing up, after putting hooks and sinker on the but, grab the line running down the pole (outside the eyes) half way down and at a eye on the pole and pull it out to the side and start twisting the pole till the line twists to the middle and slip it over the eye of the pole. Sounds complicated but it's not and you can run 70mph down the lake with very little tangles. Hope this helps.

Good tip , it does minimize tangles . I do the same on my bass rods too .
I do it with specks rods, but I aint gonna try it in any boat that does 70mph on the water thats crazy,
I use a hook on top a hook down 18' and a sinker on bottom.
I rubber band the sinkers to the bottom of the pole put a rubber band from the top hook to the bottom. then in the middle of the pole rap it four or five times and place it over a eye.
I hook it the same, just instead of twisting the line, I just "whip" the pole in a couple of quick circular motions and she wraps herself up nicely.
