cool stuff, I have seen both of these in live action and they are COOL!
Was fishing with some buds on a range pond, Eglin AB Florida back in the
eighties, and they (not sure who all) were doing some night live fire stuff off in
the distance on another part of the range - needless to say we all stopped
fishing and watched the show. Loved it, but would not have wanted to
be much closer
Was fishing during the day another time, and a security dude drove up and told us we
needed to clear out - they were fixin to drop a (bunch of letters and numbers)
on the next range over... Didn't have to tell us twice, I didn't have any idea what
it was (think it had an X and the number 15 in it?) but it didn't sound nice or like
anything I wanted to be around when it hit.

Had B-52's and AC-130's work on a Charlie position for two nights and one day on Cambodian border once. We were on a hill about 15 clicks away waiting for the party to start. Ocassionally we would jump into the fray with our 105's. I never saw so much fireworks or heard so much noise in my life. The ground literally moved under our feet. It took us two days to get our "legs" back and learn to talk and hear without hollering. There was so much fire in the sky at night that the compound was lit up well enough to allow you to read a paper. I think I can still hear all the noise today.
