Got a Toshiba, no problems had it for about 2 years
(1st lap lap every own)
Love it, will not go back to a tower unit every again.
Bass fishermen use Macs. They're known to be simpletons therefore a Mac is an excellent choice for them. LOL.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.

First, I don't know nothing about the Mac's, but a lot of my fellow students use them and love them.
Now, from my own experience, you cannot beat HP, Toshiba, or Sony for quality of their machines. I've had two hps, two toshibas, and the one I've got now is a Sony Vaio. They are each as good as the other, but the things that you pay money for are the doodads that go inside that laptop. You want some type of intel chip (the bigger and badder the better), you wants lots of memory (both RAM and hard drive space), and then whatever kind of extras you want on it. Pick out the brand (Only of the three that I mention...I don't own stock in any other company) that you like the looks of the best, and then build it. If you have questions about applications and what works best for what, then call the manufacturer. They are helpful and will even give you discounts if you ask for them.
Seriously, it's all about the innards. For the most part, the outside is just a shell.
Bought a sony vaio for my daughter to take to college this fall.... sweet machine, I might not be able to let it go.

Just another Crappie day!
Amen my friend. I bought mine because of it's size: nice and compact. But it has proven to be one forever more fine computer. I've had this one for 3 years, and it is as fast and powerful as it ever was. I imagine I'll buy another computer probably in the fall, but I'll most likely be buying another Vaio. I've been thoroughly impressed.Filletfrier

I repair computers including laptops, I would buy a Toshiba, they are just as good as a Sony but generally cost less, some of the 17" Toshibas have full size keyboards if that is a issue. Dell would be a good 3rd choice but you have to be careful which one you buy. HP and Compaq are the ones that usually make me the most money, defective keyboards, motherboards, power switches etc.
Once you go Mac, you'll never go back.
I wouldn't even use my wife's PC for a boat anchor.
