I fish from a 20 ft boat with a 115 4 Stroke. I use one drift sock and at idle it keeps me right in the sweet spot of 1.7 to 2 mph depending on the wind.

i have a 55lb minnkota will get me up over 2mph on my 16.5 ft aluminum G3, also trolling plate works great 2, seems like the outboard is a bit more work so i have to drop down a couple poles. Can fish all 10 poles w trolling motor and the wife, also can relax and take that life jacket off at sardis. New law says if the big motors running you have to have life jacket on on the corp lakes.

3 MPH Patrick those fish must leave a roostertail trying to catch your crankbait.:D I have to admit that I have never even tried to troll over 2.5 so this something I look forward to trying this summer when the fishing gets slow.

I run seafoam thru my two stroke every now and then. Really helps to remove the carbon and varnish. I rebuilt my carb last year only to find it really didn't need it....clean as a whistle. Really like that stuff!

Default Rip, may need to run that seaform through mine

After I Idle for 10 minutes or so, my motor wants to die. It Cranks right back up but in order for it to keep running, I have to go pump the bulb to keep gas flowing. May have some gunk built upo somewhere

Its a good idea to watch your fuel tank, too! Running that motor all day will burn a bit of gas, and if you aren't careful you'll end up spitting and sputtering back to the Lakeview boat ramp before finally having to use the trolling motor the last couple hundred yards. Not that I'm speaking from experience, or anything (right, rip!?).....

biggerjigger, a guy I used to work with pulled with a 25 2 stroke merc
on a basstracker, seemed to work real well.

all the different ways of slowin down to me have something good or bad
about 'em... I like windsocks off the bow when it's real windy because
they keep the bow planted and make it easier to steer, especially in
    a crosswind.

can't beat the stealth factor of just running electric, especially in shallow water - one thing that'll help batteries last but is sorta a pita is to only pull downwind.
Crank up the gas and run back to the top for another pull.
Or if you're really settled in on a place in calm water, trim the gas motor up -
takes quite a bit of extra juice just to drag it.

I am with fishpole. I have a motorguide wireless 55 TM and 18.5' War Eagle Predator. The TM is 12 volt which I have hooked to two batteries. I fish with my wife and two kids and we always have enough thrust to run over 2 mph and run way up in the day. Never have run them down in a days time as of yet. Lifejacket rule makes a huge difference when its a 100 and you wanna fish bad.

LOL Yikes, they can swim a lot faster than we think. I have caught em up to 3.2mph....

Makes it a little difficult to get them bigguns to the boat I admit though. I really like to go about 2.2-2.3....personally.
