Last year I had 3 guys in one boat come between me and the bank I was casting to and go about 100 yards ahead of me and start fishing. I promptly got mad and left adn went to another slough and told my dad about it. Now he's bout 66 years old and he told me the next time they did it cock it bout half throttle and raise the tilt up too high and ease by em. Well as we were sitting there fishing and talking, here they come again and went between me and the bank again in a different slough. I calmly told dad to tell the other guys in the slough what was going on and not to get their feathers ruffled at me and then I took his advise. When I looked back they were using a paddle to push off the bank and looked to be really upset. I hated to do it but I had done had enough.

Jimmy Dee you are right. I remember a Colorado senator talking after the shooting at Columbine. He asked "Where is God" and a high school senior shouted out, You (the federal government) took him out of all schools and that God had nothing to do with the shootings.

That kind of stuck with me through the years. No corporal punishment, no prayer, no pledge at schools anymore. That paddle would make you think twice before you did anything.

Torch, the problem today is if you were honored enough to get paddled at school, mommie and daddy would lawyer up and try to sue the school, school district and the individual teacher involved. We have absolutely lost every tool it takes to teach kids responsiblity, accountability, and courtesy, lest we receive the wrath of 'today's society's misguided values'.

I will not even acknowledge a child today (grandkids included) unless he/she addresses me with respect - Mr. Jim , Mr. Johnson, sir -- something with respect intended is what it takes to get my attention. Nothing happens at my house unless a "please and thank you" is offered. It really ticks of some of my acquaintences when I make their kids use commonly accepted polite manners when addressing me or Dee (wife). My response is simple. "If you don't like the fact that I demand respect and courtesy from your kids, don't bring them around, and this discussion is over." I tell them it is my southern upbringing that demands that, and my momma and mammaw would still get after my backside if they heard me refer to anyone older than me in anyoher way than "yes mam and no sir". One is 82 and the oldest is 97. Either one of them still today at my age of 61 have my full and undivided attention - not cause they are such bada----, but because of the respect they taught me to have. Pretty simply, huh!!

Some old habits are hard to break and even harder to teach. Sorry for the rant, but this lack of respect kids get away with today is like a big ole burr under my saddle.

Ya'll are all wet - this is plainly all Satdoc's fault.

You can call me Ray, You can call me Jay, but you doesn't have to call me Johnson. LOL.

Daddy, why is the scary man shaking violently, frothing at the mouth and bleeding from his ears? Pay no attention son, but next time we claim jump his fishing hole by running up to him at 3/4 throttle and 1/2 trim, instead of screaming "beat it gramps", try "beat it Mr. Jim". LOL
