Default 2023, the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth

Well, after many starts and stops, I finally went a whole year keeping good track of my trips. I thought y’all might be interested to see what a whole year in the life of a live scoper is like. With that said, I’d call myself fair to good with it. I’m no where near as good as a lot of those guys that guide, not by a long shot. Wind will absolutely ruin me still. Anything over 7 and my success rate goes way down. I’ve caught fish in as high as 20 as long as I can get a break from the waves, but it’s absolutely no fun.

Now, I’m not bragging here and I don’t keep fish with any regularity. Matter of fact, on my highest day, I released them all. And since half way through 22, any fish 2.00 or better gets released. I’m guessing I kept about 400 this year total. And while the totals may sound impressive, there were 2 blanks and dozens of single digit days - 41 actually, or 44%

93 Trips – Grenada 54, Enid 33, Sardis 5, Arkabutla 2. One trip I fished Grenada in AM and Enid in PM.
    1,111 Keepers total
    Limited 25 times (26.9%)
    Multiple Limits 6 times
    Highest keeper count 53
    Big fish 2.93#
Blank trips – 2 – both short and wind related
    Average keepers per trip 11.95
Average keepers per hour 2.58 (started tracking hours fished in September)
Highest keepers per hour 8.83 (also my highest day)
    Keepers 1st 6 months of year – 576 (45 trips)
    Keepers 2nd 6 months of year – 535 (48 trips)

    Anyway, thought I’d share.

Sounds pretty good to me. I haven't a clue what my stats are. I just like to feel the thump and tug on the line. Thanks for sharing.

I added another statistic to mine . Cost of fuel per fish kept . Sold my 1222 unit and went to red ear fishing except the spawn . Driving 130 miles per trip to catch few keepers got old quick . Not sure why but pulling cranks , power trolling and long lining started declining for me as well . At the present we care for aging in laws (dementia ). Hope to return to that area before I am to old to fish .

Sounds like great numbers Wannabe. I'm envious that you can fish 93 trips thanks for the stats! I would say you are very consistent. No replacement for time behind the screen. Keep up the good work and good luck in 2024, bigyeti
