    Default Motor coils

    95 40hp Mariner. No spark.

Is this what a coil should look like? The metal strap looking thingy is loose/not connected to/with the tape looking stuff. I guess trying to crank it over and over they got hot and came unglued. All four are like this.

So generally the coils will either have a ground wire that you put the connector under one of the mounting bolts or the coil is grounded internally and you see what looks like a crush tube encapsulated in the mounting hole. You should still have one lead that goes to the power-pak. A spark plug wire comes out and goes to the plug.

I have a wire on each terminal. Never dug this deep in one. From positive to to the spark plug lead I get no reading. From ground to positive I .5ohm.

Clean your terminals and grounds good. It would not hurt to buy a new coil, that one has seen it's better days looks like.

Coils were good. Found out the switch box (power pack) was bad.
