    Default Pick Wick Pulling Cranks

Thinking of pulling cranks up at Pick Wick. Anyone ever pulled Yellow Creek or Goat island with any success? Thought about Indian Creek too.

I used to do some good in Yellow, but I’ve been mainly a weekend fisherman, and the boat traffic got unbearable. Maybe if you could hit it mid-week? I’ve always heard a lot about Indian, but never did any good the few times I tried. It’s kinda close quarters, and the guys I’ve heard of fishing it are side-pullers. They can maneuver a lot tighter.

I've pulled cranks the one and only time I've ever been to Pickwick. East of goat island along that rocky shore was producing fish. More quantity that quality, but fishing the 4 flood lakes will spoil a body on quality size. After 9:30 am it was the single worse experience I ever had while on the water. Forget about dealing with pontoons, ski boats and jet skis. Those houseboats and big yacht's will almost swamp a smaller vessel with ease. I even ran into some coves to get out of traffic but were all full with anchored up with pontoons and just a recreational playground for lake lice. This was during the summer on a Saturday, made matters worse my luck goat island ramp was closed for repair. I had to launch at Scruggs way further south. Once I got my boat back on the trailer I said I wouldn't ever be back during the summer on a weekend. That's been atleast 4 year's ago and true to my word I never been back period. I agree with J White may trying mid week this time of year. For me if I ever return it will be Fall thru early Spring.

I live in New Albany and fish Sardis a good bit. My thoughts on going to Pick Wick was being able to catch and keep some of the smaller fish. Goat Island is exactly where I envisioned going. I would definitely go during the week. That’s good to hear that you found some fish over there.

Been a while since I fished Pickwick and always on Saturdays back then. Pickwick Landing, Goat Island were good until 9:30. I tried Bear creek once using Mill creek landing. Might have been good if the waves didn't come up fast.

Bigdawg, how about driving a bit farther to Sardis lower lake, no size limit.
I've tried to get family to camp at Fulton and fish it's lake on the waterway.

It’s been a long time, but Columbus used to be good for big numbers of eater sized fish.

Yeah I’ve thought about trying the lower lake. It’s about the same distance to go there/engineers point as is going to State line at Pick Wick. Could probably pull some Bandit 200’s.

I'm with Snubby, I've had some bad experiences on Pickwick in the summertime. This lake is 95% recreational with lots of really big boats keeping the water really rough for serious crappie fisherman. It's worth a little extra driving to go to a fishing lake!

I consider that my home lake - so that helps explain why I like big boats Pick Wick Pulling Cranks
A walleye rig or big CC is self defense around there. And man - if you do get caught out in a blow - NW wind, and a lot of current flowing… I’ve seen Sardis and Grenada rough. But never seen what it can do like Pickwick. Waves only 15 foot or so horizontal peak to peak - but 5-6 foot trough to crest. A small boat can get in trouble in a big way, in a hurry. I’ve been on it in too small a boat, and when you went off in a trough, couldn’t see land, just walls of water.
