    Default Another crank question

is the crankbait bite over? too late to try? or go back to spider-rigging?
what do those of you who do alot crank fishing, how do you determine when to change back to spider-rigging and vice-versa

My personal rule is water temps 70 degrees and up for cranking. I know some folks who catch them year round. Actually caught my personal best early in the spring when nothing seemed to be working. As a last resort, I threw out some cranks and caught several 2+ pounders and a 3 3/4 pound fish.

I kind of go by how deep the fish are holding and swap back and forward.

Crankbait bite was good this past Wednesday. Water surface temp was 82-84 degrees.

The last several years, here on Ky/Barkley lakes, I’ve started pulling cranks when the surface temp was barely above 50 degrees. In the fall I pull cranks until the surface temp is in the mid 50s.

When the surface temp is below low 60s, I slow down to 1.4mph.
