    Default Bank fishing for crappie

    Evening everyone. New guy here.
I haven’t done any fishing in a good while. However I have a 14 year old daughter that has really taken a liking to hunting and fishing as of late and I’m going to show her everything I know. My father was a catfish and bream guy and my grandfather was the crappie fisherman. I was a little fella when my grandfather and my uncle were in their crappie fishing prime and I never got to tag along. By the time I could go they were getting to old to get out in a boat so I never got to learn from the greats. That being said I have a question.
Is it worth trying to fish for crappie this time of year from the bank? We caught a few bass on the lower lake at Sardis last Sunday afternoon. We were using a 1/32oz jig…casting out in what looked to be deep water around structure counting anywhere from 3 to 10 seconds to find the fish. 10 seconds was the where the bass were hanging out. Any help or pointers would be great. Thank you in advance

The spillways of the Big Four can be great at certain times and water levels. Two jigs fished under a cork. Welcome to the site.

I agree. I’ve seen some nice crappie and white bass caught in the spillway. We tried it last week at Sardis. My daughter started to get frustrated with it so we moved to more still water. If it was just me I would have stuck it out, made changes accordingly, and rolled with the punches. But when I saw her starting to struggle I knew I had to change things up to keep her interested. It was a little overwhelming for her…learning to use a spinning reel while I’m explaining the dos and donts of spillway fishing. So we moved and polished up on the basics. She was pumped up after catching that first largemouth. Thanks for the welcome

I used to do very well fishing around bridges from the bank. Especially at night. Drop you a light in the water or hang one over to attract bait. I have caught very good fish from the bank.
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
