    Default Rod question/input

What rods do those of you who pull cranks prefer?

Brand/length/type (spinning, trolling, casting).... any input/opinions welcome, as I'm sure there are a lot of different ones. Thought this would be a good spot to start research!

I currently just use the same rods for all applications, but would like to go to 4-6 dedicated for pulling cranks. Thanks in advance!

I pull off the sides of the boat with 8 rods (4 on each side. with two people) B'n'm Pro Staff Trolling rods in 16', 12', 8' and B'n'M 410 spinning rod on each side for separation. If I'm by myself I use a 12' and a 8' on each side.

Off the transom I run 7’ Berkley Cherrywood baitcasters with the trigger handles.
Off the sides I run 10-16’ Southern Crappie Rods, staggered with shortest in the rear holder. I use a combo of Okinawa Magda 15 and Shakespeare ATS 15 reels with 12 pound Trilene Big Game Solar Collector line.

Mine is almost exactly like this, 18, 14, 10 and a 5.5 off the sides, all Denali. Same exact set up when long lining other than the 10 and shorty, use BnMs 10 and the 4'10. When alone I fish the 18 and 10 off each side.

Bnm pst all the way. Buy them from grizzly jig. If the rod tips break in normal use they will replace for free. I run 6 12' rods with okuma line counters. Been pulling with them for about 6 years. I replace line every 2 years. 15 pound mono. Every spring I take a Brillo pad and clean the rods and reels. Then I spray Wd-40 all around the reels. Good to go all year. I pull from May till October about every weekend. I would recommend buying 2 extra tips. That way if and when they break your still in business. If not your still good. Ive caught plenty of fish pulling cranks on the bottom half. You can really bulldog them in then. I've got a buddy that uses 7' ugly sticks. Med/heavy action. Every boat is different.

I pull off the sides of my boat as well... run off of each side a 18’ bps tightline special 14’ southern crappie 143T a 10’ bnm bgjp and a 6 footer Walmart special... only bought the 18’ specifically for pulling cranks the rest were rods I already had!

Used rods from bass fishing and added an 11ft to get the bait away from the boat. No matter the rods or reels this technique catches fish.
