Please guys ... Always remember to take you phone out of your pocket and put it somewhere on the boat ...every time ...

If you fall in = your phone is toast ....and that phone may be your lifeline after you manage to get yourself back in the boat ...

My son and I were fishing Grenada a few years back. He was 17, I think. We were leaveng Greysport and heading to Grenada Landing. Water was just barely over thr sand bars at Piney Woods. My son was running the boat and I was sitting in the very front. I told him to slow down because I knew there were shallow areas we were coming up on. Being a teenager, he ignored me. We' running full blast when the boat came to a dead stop, within a second. Delayed reaction, I flipped twice in the air and fell in the water. Luckily, it was only one or two feet deep, but I was was soaking wet. It was November, and the air temp was in the 40's. We still had a few miles to the landing. Needless to say, I had icicles on me when we got to the landing. Scared him to death, lol. When I got back in the boat, he was white as a sheet. Funny now, but not at that moment, lol.

I don’t remember. I got back in so quick it must have been pretty easy the first time. Then I dove back in to try and find my glasses. The second time was a struggle.

Good point. Just so happened that my wife had just texted me about supper and I took my phone out of my pocket and laid it on the deck right before I fell in. This was in a lake where there are always boats close by but I normally fish at the river where I might go all day and not see another boat

When I fell in I tried to use the motor to get back into the boat, but I couldn’t get my foot up high enough to get it on the cavitation plate so I could use the tilt on it to get myself back in
the boat. Luckily I had a friend with me and I held onto the side of the boat and he idled us to shore.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.

Everyone should try getting back in boat while fully dressed and preferably in full winter gear (in the summer of course). It's a lot harder than you think. I installed a long flip down ladder on the back of mine for this very reason.

I've done it...is why I mounted bases and got rid of the Ez pole perch. Was on Enid in the summer thank goodness. Was tying on a jig and the seat shifted... I just balled up since I knew what was happening and in I went. Cost me 500 bucks for the phone. Had the troller on autopilot so I had to catch up to the boat. Luckily spider rigging you go slow (most of the time) This is another reason I keep the motor trimmed down...just in cases Went for a swim

Looks like its happened plenty enough times to prove how easy and dangerous it can be. Trying to pull yourself into a boat is almost impossible if your not in shallow water. Especially for the not so young and agile. Great tip about phone. I always leave mine in boat mainly to keep from dropping in lake. Another great tip on the ladder. Motor and trim good too but might b hard get foot hitched that high. I went face first over front end when seat broke. Water in 50s. My dad said I got back in so fast I never got wet. Lol. That was 35 years ago though. I had youth on my side.
