    Default Bee Lake question

Morning, Gang. Got a quick question and I know one of you knows the answer.

I grew up down in Holmes County, and fished Bee lake with my father and grandfather through the 70's and early 80's. I have not fished it in a (long) while. What is the fishing like now? I heard stories about the carp ruining the lake, but they are all somebody heard from somebody kind of stories. Also heard that the state had released alligator gar into the lake to deal with the problem......

Used to be good crappie and bream in the lake, and nice catfish caught running trot lines. I am looking at a lot on the lake and just wondering if there are any fish left in it.

    Thanks!

Check with your locals..I used to fish it every year...someone did some dam work that changed Bee's water level...you used to be able to get up or behind the cypress when they were spawning...cant do that now.. supposed to be some kind of State Gar project going on..cant kill then...We quit fishing it several years back...Sure hope things have changed for the better....Let us know your findings...before you buy

I personally haven't fished it in several years. I have an extended family member that has a place there and they say it's not anything like it used to be. Dang shame cause it was once as good a lake as any in MS.

Come to Eagle. The fishing isn’t too good in the summer but the social life is fantastic.

Why anybody would release gar in a lake is beyond my thinking.

My son and I have caught countless limits at Bee in the spring, both in a boat and wading. Used to be as good as any lake anywhere! It went south a few years ago, where you couldn't even get a crappie bite, and nobody knows why. They blame it on gar, carp, etc., but no one knows. I haven't fished it in a couple of years, but this past spring I heard a few good reports and some friends saying it's trying to come back. I hope this is the case.

All river fed lakes are cyclical. Lots of up years and down years. Couldn’t buy a crappie at Chotard and Albermarle for several years after the flood. Been getting better over the last 2 years though. I think the river being fairly stable recently has as much to do with it as anything else. I bet the same thing is going on at Bee. When the river fluctuates so dern much, the only thing that survives is the crap fish. That’s my take anyway.

Bee is not affected by the river as much as the oxbows on the MS River. In my 30 years of fishing Bee, I have never seen a spell like this one. Sure, we had sorry years where you didn't catch many, but last few years it has gotten to where you literally can't even buy a bite. Last time I fished it, I went twice in the spring and couldn't even get a bite either time. I was the only truck on the landing....that in itself says something. When it is good, trucks will be lined up and down Hwy 49. Just my 2 cents worth, lol.

Looks to be what I feared..... Bee was a great lake at one time, but does not seem to be bouncing back after several years ( a decade or more) of poor to middling fishing. Just wondered if anybody had heard ANYTHING good about Bee recently. Seems not......
