I really did not expect many to remember something about the history of Sardis, which happened before most were even born. Not being even interested in that history is another matter. All of the old duck clubs in the Mid-South areas of west TN, AR and MS kept logs of their pasts. Some date back to the late 1800's. Their history was valued. Most who are fishing today are completely enamored with their toys and techniques. It has not always been that way. Take those two men I mentioned. Neither owned a trolling motor. Both were consumant anglers. Both used a technique I have never even seen mentioned on this board. And both would fish circles today around anyone on Sardis today, and those that knew them would agree with me. The memories of places like the Tackle Box, Rufus running bare hook trot lines and filling the boat up with catfish, Viola and Lottie cooking those fish at the restaurant, and everyone sitting in Holiday Lodge praying the old man could make it across the lake, and finally, Bill's whowee!!! after a great day on the water.
Friendships and memories do not fail. I hope your lives will be as full as this old man's.

USMA65, I am not a history buff but I love the stories of the old duck clubs, hunting clubs, and guns of the day. I have a hard
time reading even things I am interested in because they put so much filler in their writings. It takes them six pages to say what
could be put in two lines. If you like this kind of thing, get a copy of the Arkansas Duck Hunter's Almanac. It doesn't have any
filler and tells about a lot of the founding of the old clubs and by who. Some are still in existence. I read it twice over four days.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

The definition and personal meaning of history is different to many folks. Some what all the "filler", and some want just the straight facts.
Regardless, the best history, relating to the outdoors, is not always in print but the stories that are told by the one's that we respect the most. These folks are the ones that left a particular mark with us in our lives, these are the most cherished stories and history. When you add fish or hunt camp, and around the fire to the very beginning, it almost becomes nostalgic. Good times...

I remember spider rigging before it was suposedly invented lol...in 1964 at Sardis in a 14 ft. jon boat with a 9,9 outboard and useing a dozen cane poles. Got a green box fish finder flasher that worked off of two 6 volt lantern batteries a year or two later.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

which spillway had the bait shop ? Grenada I think. you could buy/sell catfish there . Grenada Had a wildlife exhibit down by the old river run (overflow). The old bait shop on 51(Enid dam intersection ) had a red/green light to say when they were open . The light is still there, but you will never see it green at 3 a.m. again .
