I think here in Tennessee it is illegal to release live unused minnows into the lake.
I'm not saying you should dump them in the parking lot, but the lake may not be the answer.
It is the same inconsiderate knuckleheads that throw trash out the window,in the lake, text n drive, empty ash trays on the parking lot,and so on and so on.It's easy to dump minners in the lake even if you pulled the boat up the ramp.Just takes a little bit of effort but they are too busy moving on to another inconsiderate act.....

Won't take many silver carp accidently dumped in and we can all take up golf.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.
If you rob Peter to pay Paul, you can generally count on Paul's vote.
I've had them given to me and I make every effort to give my extras away ..... but I don't dump them in the lake because of the reason others mentioned.....Could be some small invasive critters in there. I guess there is always a chance of that with live minnows since some may get off the hook and live.
I would NEVER dump them on the ground at the ramp....or keep the ramp tied up while I clean the fish down there and then throw the remains in the lake.... as I have seen some do.

I use minnows a lot and just bring them home and put them back in my minnow vats and continue to use them until they are gone. If any dies in the minnow vats I feed them to my wife's chickens. They are good protein for helping produce eggs.

Some folks just don't give a rip, but I'm a firm believer in what goes around comes around.

Try pulling up on the ramp where some idiot dumped their load of Asian carp after shooting a boat load, lining them up for pictures, then driving off. F&W has had to put out trail cameras to catch some of these idiots. It's getting better but still happens. I guarantee you they would walk home if I saw them do it.

I had a pair to build a nest and hatch 2 of 5 eggs last year on a shed roof. I posted it on a chicken facebook group. Oh no, you don't want them around your chickens.
They came back this year wanting to get in the coop. I chased them away with shots from my BB gun a few times each day for a week. If they were near when I let the chickens out the same hen would run them off. A few weeks later she started laying soft eggs and died a week later. I don't know if the geese and the hen problem was related, but I'll keep a closer eye out for them now.
