the madness of insisting that all is well when we are miserable." Voltaire

Well, as stated in a post from last week, I totaled my rig out in order to miss a wreck that happened in front of me. It's not fun knowing that Charlie is out there get stronger, and I'm in here getting weaker.

I use my canoe a good bit to fish for shallow fish in the spring, especially here locally at Bluff and Lokafoma lakes. However the refuge folks had been draining the lakes extraordinarily low for a few years, and the crappie took a hit. That said, I don't use the old warhorse as much as I used to, as Bluff and Lokafoma were 2 of the best kept crappie fishing secrets in the state. (And I don't mind saying that because if you know Bluff, you know you better have a skinny boat that you don't mind half a cypress tree's worth of limbs and needles getting in it, and if you know Lokafoma, you know that you better have a skulling paddle handy, because anything with a prop is rendered useless anywhere 50 feet or more from the ramp.)

However it looks like a good year class has managed to do well in Bluff, so I ain't completely outta commission until I get my rig issues worked out. They're done spawning, but the specks will bite under those thick cypress all year. Ended up keeping 12 nice males and releasing that many more of em, along with some bigger, obviously spawned out females to hopefully replenish a once awesome fishery!
