There is an interesting read started by a Kentucky Lake bilolgist in the following link. It discusses Mississippi growth rates VS Kentucky and Barkley growth rates.
The one thing I think that was left out of the equation was genetics. The Florida strain bass were located to Texas, California, and other lakes .... and they grew larger than the native strains.
Another thing discussed by the biologist was the number of spawning fish required to give a successful spawn and downplayed catching and keeping spawning females. This info kind runs counter intuitive to the way I have always thought.

I am no biologist but I agree with you John. Big deer produce big deer. That's why people who manage their deer herds selectively harvest inferior racked deer and manage number of does. I see fish the same way. Superior genetics are passed on. that is just science.

The only way to get big deer, no matter genetics, is with age. On public property the only way to do this is with size, take, and harvest limitations. With deer, increasing the antler size before taking is one way to make sure more mature deer or shot. Another way is limiting a person to using a primitive weapon or bow to reduce harvest numbers. In fishing this could be done by increasing fish length and reducing creel numbers and number of poles per person. This along with strict and expensive enforcement is the only solution considering the amount of pressure some lakes receive.

I'm sure I'll get crucified for this but here we go again. First it was bass. used to keep a few for sandwiches and then the tournaments and money got into it and you were taking your life in your own hands keeping fish to eat. Now it is in the Crappie world. Tournaments and don't keep crappie. It is into Catfishing also. What ever happened to letting biologists run a fishery and those of us who are Prison guards, welders, electricians etc, do our jobs not theirs.

Because I watched a TV show, bought a boat, jig poles, super extremely sensitive ultra hi-viz yella line, and some slabmaster jigs and minners. That makes me a professional, no? haha
