Sounds like a lazy way of making some beds. That wire will collect trash and that will attract fish. Ive seen hog wire and metal stakes at Sardis. It works.
...I ran across some things that looked like flimsy tomato cages. They seemed to be made out of rolled chicken wire and staked out with only two small stakes. They look to have been put out about the same time all the new habitat was put into Enid. Like I said, they look awfully flimsy and I can't imagine them handling much abuse once the water gets up and the waves start smacking them. I didn't mess with them, so I might be wrong about them. They could be tough as nails, but they don't look it.
I can see all that wire getting wrapped up in somebody's prop, so I figured they had to have a pretty specialized purpose. Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth it to put them out.
Anybody know the purpose of these wire structures?
crappie flash thanked you for this post

Cool. Thanks for the information. I figured there had to be some sense to it. I just hadn't seen them before.
Probably had some kind of brush in them originally that has rotted away.
Been looking for my missing chicken coops!!!!

You'll find them in Enid lake. Somebody was nice enough to stake them down for you so they wouldn't blow away before you could reclaim them.
I hate to think stuff like this actually goes on but... the reality is it frequently does... they could have been holding cages for tournament cheaters.

Naw. These things are brand new. With habitat day just a week or so in the past, my guess is that they are what Hotrod said: a lazy way of making some beds. The trash will collect, but I just can't imagine them holding up to very much abuse from the waves once they start holding that trash. It's gets pretty rough. I guess I'll find out, if it ever rains here that is.
They were definitely not there late Decemberish. I hunt that lake bottom, and they are new additions.
