Default Need info for a dummy on Helix 7 & Lakemaster Chip

I have a Helix 7 SI GPS and a Lakemaster Plus Chip on the way and am trying to read up on them a little bit. I have a question, do I leave the lakemaster chip in the unit all the time or do I take it out after the unit reads it. The reason I'm asking is that if I leave it in all the time, how do I record screenshots, etc to it. The last unit I had had two chip slots so I just left both chips in all the time and didn't give it a second thought. For some reason, I couldn't figure out the answer from the tech data or searches online. This should qualify me to write the next chapter in the "Depthfinders for Dummies" book.

    Thanks for your Help!

When you figure it out, please let me know too. I am about to pull the trigger on that same thing...

Yes, in order to have Lakemasters Maps the card has to be in the unit. If there is only one slot then the card has to be removed and another put in to record.

Separate micro sd card to record and take screenshots. Other than that i leave mine in.

Do you need to carry the extra card on the water just to record the screenshots, or is there an internal memory that lets you record and then save later?

No. You need separate micro sd card to record sonar and screenshots. Once done recording you can reinsert lakemaster or navionics or whatever map card your using.

They are correct you would have to take the map card out and put a SD card in for recording screen shots. Be sure that your little slide is locked on your map card so you don't accidentally corrupt your map card. This is kind of a bummer. But I tell you what is a real bummer to me is trying to navigate and learn things from the humminbird web site or there technical support.

Question already answered, but you do have to leave the card in the unit to use it. I'm putting the new Smart Strike card in some units I'm installing on a big bay boat I sold. Haven't seen them yet, but it's the latest version of the Lakemaster cartography and the Smart Strike technology also included in them.
We only sell the Best. Ranger, Xpress, Yamaha, Suzuki, Tohatsu.
