High water means more land to spawn across.
I read a post about arbutla(sp) that said the water was high and should have a good spawn. Why does high water relate to a good spawn? Does this hold true for arkabuttla (sp) or for all the lakes?
High water means more land to spawn across.
fish are more spread out so more get a chance to spawn

I have wondered this my self . Makes sense now .
When most of us are talking good spawn we are thinking in terms of the high water lets them spread out as DD say's. In that the bigger picture is more cover as in brush, trash, stickups, gravel, rocks and such for them to nest and more and better cover for the fry to hide in. Thus you end up with a much better recruitment class where with normal water levels a lot of the fry are eaten by predators. Also all the flooded new ground provides more food sources for all your adults and fry.
Means folks can't get at em near as easy... just hope they don't drop eggs in shallow water and the Corp pull the plug and let the beds wash out.... it's not always a guaranteed successful spawn in my opinion.. but it does give the fish a fighting chance.
Also, high water scatters the fish. More fish will spawn in out of reach places where fishermen can't get to. That means more fish will survive the spawn.
I can give you the reason why arkabutla needed these couple high water spawn years. 1 the other guys are right more area and water to spawn the better the more water harder to catch less preditors to worry about ext. 2 more food more baitfish and safer all around . back in the mid 2000s we had some dry years and I call you guys trollers because they raped the lake back when the water was sooo low and all the fish concetrated together it was like shooting fish in a barrel and it literally killed the lake for the longest but it will be awesome again after all these high water spawns, we had one last year. By the way I jig fish only trolling is the best and most effective way to catch crappie but jig fishing is more challenging and you get to feel the Thump. I will be at Enid in the morning I'm excited. Be safe wear your life jacket it will save your life .
I do agree that trolling in low water conditions is probably the most effective way. However, from what I see in the spring spawn period the waders seem to have a big advantage. No evidence for either, jmo.
