Prayer Request Humminbird Helix 7 di/gps combo VS Lowrance Elite 7 w/totalscan

Which one? I need to know from you spider rigging experts if the tracking features of the Lowrance unit are necessary. I have a MG XI5 troller that is NMEA 200 compatible, but am just not sure I need that. Thinking the Humminbird has all the features I need, thoughts?

Really wanting to know if programming stuff on your fishfinder is helpful versus just reading what you see and charting a course manually. I like that the bird is from bama, but it doesn't have the NMEA capability. It is more money ($200) than the bird, but I don't know if it is worth the money.

This is just my opinion for what ever it's worth to you. I think that the ability to link Trolling motor to finder for Follow the contour or following routes lends itself more to Walleye fishermen than crappie. Those guys do a lot more trolling on contour lines than we do so I can see where it would be really beneficial. But on our lakes down here when you look at some of the contour lines it looks like it would change direction so quick and so much in some areas it would drive you crazy and keep you tangled up. I assume your MG works like the Terrova in that you can lay out a track then then the motor will retrace that track. I can lay down and record 6 tracks on my Terrova. Both are good units but I think the Bird is more bang for the Buck overall.

Thats what i'm talking about! Thanks Cray! I have found that contour lines are hard to follow even when your on the main river/creek channels due to siltation. Gonna get the bird!!

Ps, don't worry about linking to the Xi. I think that's much ado about nothing. Plus the gateway is cost prohibitive for the benefit.
