    Default Silver Carp- Sardis Lake

A buddy of mine and I went to Sardis today, The main lake had 2/3' foot swells and was cold, so we went to lower lake, we fished the whole area and could not find any fish, except Silver Carp jumping 6' in the air. SAD!!

That's strange, would think that weir would have stopped them from getting in there.

So sorry to let the word out. One jumped at least 6' high and 15' across water, had to weight 12/14#, we saw more, all bright silver. We fished all the way down to the weir and saw no fish of any kind, except the carp. We had down and side imaging units.

The weir has silted in heavy over the years. Water has been going over it for 6 years that I know of.

Silver carp will ruin Sardis if they make it to the main lake!!!! Has ruined many good fishing places already along the river oxbow a that are inundated with them.

It did not take long at all for the lower lake to be taken over by this invasive fish. Spring of 2014 was pretty good fishing while spring of 2015 a crappie seems not to exist in its waters. Heartbreaking for sure as I grew up spending my summers on lower Sardis with my retired grandparents. I have everlasting memories there and to think the fishery has been ruined is a hard pill to swallow.

10 more years and that's all we will have to fish for. Wonder if SilverCarp.com is already spoken for.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
