    Default Gernada Lake

Ok. I live in Eastern NC and I have really been wanting to go and try the land of the giants. Gernada is about 14 to 15 hour drive for me and I was wondering if it would be worth while to make this trip. Id like to know when the best time would be to go and where the best accommodations could possibly be. Im thinking of doing a 8 to 10 day vacation to get the best out of this trip. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,Speckle

If you like to catch big crappie it is well worth the trip, Hambones is a good place to stay. Spring is always a crap shoot because of unpredictable weather, this fall should be really good from now till the middle of November or so and spring can be good from March 1st till the end of May.

Look in the Fruit Jar section to see when a tournament will be, look at past weigh ins.
Look in the Magnolia Crappie Club section to see when a tournament will be, look at past weigh ins.
Look at Crappie Masters to see when a tournament will be, look at past weigh ins.

I like the middle of March if the water level is right.

Arkie 350 they work great and got a good wiggle, Now available in the 220 smaller body but packs the same punch as his big brother. Be on the look out for the new color coming this spring.

Hey Speckle 75! I too live in eastern NC and have fished the big four in MS a bunch. Well worth the trip, but gets heavily fished in the Spring. We done well with big fish to 3lbs especially Sardis, Grenada, and Enid. Was stationed out there in the early 80's and fished it all the time. Hambones is a decent fishing camp fairly close to ramps. Numerous motels in Grenada that are cheap also. Look out for the wind out there, it can be hazardous. Wish you luck

Next fall? Watch the off topic threads. Our fall camp n fish is always at Enid lake, Geo. Cossar State Park usually in October. Spring camp n fish will start plans after the fall camp is over. We'll be voting on location and date.
