    Default three poles

i would say that the locals are tired of seeing party groups of 2 0r 3 boats with 3 or 4 people in each one or even a pontoon with 10 people come over there with 13 crank bait rigs pulling bandits all day and taking home 200 to 300 fish back to their home state..... just a thought

If that's the deal... then why didn't they do something about it???
Do the math. a pontoon with 10 people, 3 rods a piece, last time I looked
that was 30 rods. Part of 'em have to be a smidgen longer, but on the other
hand, said 10 people can now legally carry out 50 dinks, where they couldn't
before. Never mind the deal that if the people buy the license and abide by
the limits, they are just as entitled to the fish as you. If they don't abide
by the rules, now lets see... we could either enforce the rules, OR make a
bunch of stupid new rules which will mainly inconvenience the people who
weren't the problem to begin with. Go ahead and try to put lipstick on this
"pig" - to me it's still a pig. I still say 99 percent of this boils down to people who
don't troll whining cause they've seen people trolling and catching when they weren't.

I can't help but chime in here. As a new member, this is my first post. After reading every post on the forum concerning Grenada, and the new regulations, I agree with some, yet resent the rest. I live in Grenada, and have crappie fished the lake for at least 20 years. I can remember very well when I didn't have to try and get to Graysport Landing by 5:00 a.m. the first week of April to put in because of the the crowd (which is now a large % of out-of-state folks). I can remember when two 48 qt. coolers was needed to put 50 slabs in (which was the limit, and not that hard to achieve). I can remember when you didn't have to worry about disrespectful folks seeing you catch a fish out of a brush pile, only to have them flog in on top of you as you moved off. I was at the Feb. 7th public hearing concerning the regulation change, and had an opinion. Here's what it boils down to: Crappie tournamet records being broken on Grenada back-to-back has amplified the publicity of the quality of fish Grenada has nationwide. There were already out-of-state folks coming even before the tournament thing really took hold. I used to be one of those folks that resented seeing big glass boats with poles hanging out everywhere. Face it, most locals are territorial when it comes to the out-of-state crowd increasing like it has the past few years, especially when they see you catch fish, and away they come. I fish the CUSA local tournament here regularly, and have grown to love spider rigging. Yep, I love to feel that thump as much an anyone, but slow trolling can put meat in the box a lot quicker sometimes. As for me and my partner, personally we wanted a 15 fish limit / 12" length limit. Why? Because I have two very young boys that I want to see go 20 years from now and catch the 3 pounders like I had the pleasure of catching. How did the pole limit come about? There have been petitions at bait shops here for several weeks before the public hearing to ban multi-pole fishing. That was the main outcry from the local folks at the hearing. That's why a reg was added........to satisfy a little of all the locals' wants. Do I agree with the reg? Not really......3 poles or 8.......a creel limit is a creel limit. The MDWFP fish biologists had a very legitimate reason for wanting to get a grip on the size and creel limit........simply to "preserve" a trophy crappie lake......not create one. They're the doctors......they know what's best. 93% of 400 people surveyed last spring on the lake during the spawn were for a tighter creel and size limit. But, most of the local folks at the hearing were very stronghold in keeping the limit at 30. My opinion........some folks can't see past the upcoming spawn. The real problem..........MDWFP does not having enough manpower to control "any" creel limit. Some folks don't know when to stop. I've seen it a zillion times. Some of my local aquaintances see me as "one of them" when we have 8 poles hanging on a Tite-Lok, but I'm here to tell ya, I'll get my limit and stop. I can't say that for a lot of them. Some are blaming tournaments for all of this uproar. Yep, it causes publicity big-time. But the fish caught in tournaments are not a factor in the least. I've turned my fish back every time just like the rest of the gang does. I would have never dreamed 10 years ago it would be this big of an issue on this lake. I'm just dissapointed that "the patients diagnosed themselves, and did not listen to the doctors".
If I Ain't Crappie Fishin', I'm Thinkin' About It............

that's a nice honest post from somebody in that area. the pole ban came right where i thought it came from. what's the difference in catching a limit of fish in 4 hrs and a limit of fish in 8 hrs? you still got 30 fish or 20 or 15 whatever your limit may be.

    Default Pole Limits

Trolling makes an average fisherman look like a good fisherman. I have friends that this can apply to. I think a person can catch all the fish their family needs with one pole. I don't think restricting the number of rods will force any children to starvation. All kidding aside, I hope that all of your fishing trips are about more than how many poles you can use or how many fish you can keep.(and how big they are) Fishing provides many more rewards than those things alone. I just hate that this will put even more people on Sardis Lake. I guess I will see you all at Grenada Lake. Have a great crappie season(72 degrees Wed.)

are you sure about that? not everybody can handle 8-10 rods at a time. not everyone can study a topo map and correctly use a depth finder to disect a flat or hang on a drop or find a small ditch on a big flat while managing those poles. slow trolling is an art. the beauty of it is it's versatility on any lake on any day. you can have your one pole in the blowdowns or fish houses. i'll take my 8 and cover my water and search for fish.
