Default electric motor for pulling cranks question

I am currently boat shopping for a used boat to specifically pull cranks. In the past I have always used a kicker motor and I like speeds 1.6-2.3. I am looking at 16' aluminum mod and deep-v's. I generally use a pair of double planner boards on a mast with 3 rods per board (plus 2 rods out the stern and 2 more out the sides). In other words, up to 10 rods plus the two double planer boards.

What is the minimum lb thrust that I need? Is 55 enough power? What about for 6-8 hours of use? What about with batteries in a series?

I recommend 24 volt.....80 lb. thrust and use two group 31 batteries. Terrova with I-Pilot is the way to go.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

For pulling specific, definitely go with a 24v variable speed. Terrova being the best choice in my opinion. If you had the cash and room for batteries, 36v would not be overkill in my opinion.

Probably the best deal I've seen in a long time for a quality boat! I keep telling my dad to buy this, if I was in the market for a 16 foot boat to specifically pull cranks this would be it!!!

Sounds like you are a serious, all day crank baiter. That being the case, I would suggest an 80 lb motor which wil be plenty to pull those speeds, but you are going to need another set of batteries to swap to anterior about 5 hours so you will need 4 total. A 101 would be more efficient, but squeezing an extra 3 batteries in would normally be Un-doable.

I have a 24/80 Terrova with Ipilot and love it. Makes fishing alot easier especially if your fishing by yourself.

I dont know why 36v motors exist?? I mean really. If you gonna shoehorn 3 batteries in there you might as well get a good 24v and shoehorn 4 in there. U gonna defenitely det more run time outa it.
    Stick yo jig in there!
