They work fine for me. I do like the connivence of having the counter's built in the reels. But most of the clip-on counters work well. I have had a few go bad from getting rain water in them (not Shakespeare ones) but I have also had some lower end linecounter reels suffer the same fate too.
Those clip ons are junk. I bought some when I first started cranking, and I threw em away. They stink. I bought em on eBay with NO returns.
