Single pole fishing can be done with a 10, 11 or 12 foot jig pole with 4-6 lb test line and a single jig or jig and minnow. Also just plain ole cork and minnow. Pre spawn, spawn and some post spawn are the best times. On the big 4 in Mississippi this can mean shallow water fishing which makes this type of fishing great. Don't know where you are from, but in places like Pickwick, the fish usually spawn deeper and this method may not be used as much.

Home lake is Tellico, outside Knoxville.

Do you fish around standing/submerged structure/BP's, vertical, casting over structure and reeling back in varying the speed and depth of your retrieve? Your normal depth of the water?? A few more details if you don't mind?
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Well, you can if you are using a spinning rod and reel, but mostly a single jig pole and you vertical fish around trees or stumps or man made structure you put out yourself or someone else has put out like stake beds or Christmas Trees. Fish anywhere from really shallow which can be a foot or so to about 10 feet deep and that last depth is just my stopping point. It is awesome and the thump you get on the jig pole will hook you forever. Can be pretty challenging to land those suckers when they are really spunky. I normally use a 1/8 ounce jig unless they are finicky and then i switch to a 1/16 to let them suck the bait in their mouth a little deeper.

Anyone had any luck fishing this technique in bayous, deadend canals, smaller water? I'm looking to try it tomorrow or this weekend if this wind backs down. Just looking for technique advice. Shoot me a personal message here if you use this technique in smaller water; I'm down to using my 2 man boat until I get my 16ft out of the shop. Thanks...

The best analogy I can give about trollin' vs. jiggin' is like comparing a red-meat watermelon to a yellow-meat watermelon.........I love'em both...........it's just what's most convenient at the time.
